High School Mentee Application Process
CURB's Young Researchers Program has three phases in our application process. Applicants will be notified about the status of their application after each phase. Please read below for detailed information about each phase.
PHASE I: Online Application Received
Our executive committee carefully reviews each submitted online application. Each component of the application is considered and allows us to learn about your research journey.
PHASE II: CURB Outreach Committee Review of Online Application
The top 30-35% applications will pass onto Phase II and will be reviewed by the CURB Outreach committee with the help of Cornell professors, postdocs, and graduate students.
PHASE III: Matching Process
Approximately fifteen to twenty students will move into Phase III, the matching process phase. Each high school student's specific research interests and the availability of Cornell undergraduate and graduate student-mentors will help the CURB Outreach committee pair students with mentors.
A student successfully enters the Young Researchers Program after he or she has been matched to a Cornell undergraduate or graduate student-mentor. Thereafter, the student will receive an email with further instructions and will be asked to attend a mandatory lab safety workshop on January 29th at 11:30 AM and sign the Student Consent and Agreement Form. This email will be sent out on Monday, January 16, 2017.
